Factoids
Number 1:
To populate the AccountSummary
table with records that appear in the Account table but somehow
don't appear in the AccountSummary table, run the following SQL
statement against the database.
INSERT INTO ACCOUNTSUMMARY
SELECT ACCOUNTID, TYPE,
ACCOUNT, SECCODEID, FROM ACCOUNT
WHERE ACCOUNT.ACCOUNTID
= 'xxxxxxx'
The 'xxxxxxx' denotes
the specific ACCOUNTID of the Account that appears in the Account
table but not the AccountSummary table.
Number 2:
Fields set up of type
SHORT INTEGER can not be queried on. Therefore, if it appears that
you can not drag a field down into the Conditions tab of the Query
Builder, it probably means that the field is of type short integer.
Number 3:
When creating a new
database to replace an existing Remote User's corrupt database,
make sure that the Remote User synchs and the Sync Server is cycled
before the new database is created for them. This way, the most
current changes contained in their old remote database are applied
to the host database prior to database creation.
Number 4:
Per Microsoft's
guidelines, MS SQL Server CAN NOT be installed and running on the
same machine as MS Exchange Server (any version) since they are
both highly competitive for system resources. If this situation
already exists, you would need to install MS SQL Server Service
Pack 3 and then install the "hot patch" for MS SQL Server that resolves
the issues that the Borland Database Engine (BDE) configuration
utility has with MS SQL Server SP 3 and Blobs. See the MS
SQL Server Database Configuration section
for more details on MS SQL Server SP 3.
Number 5:
At this time, Processes
within SalesLogix do not support the use of Word 97 templates for
the document task. The SalesLogix Word Processor and SalesLogix
templates are the only ones currently supported by the document
task in Processes.
Number 6:
The default area code
used by SalesLogix if none is entered in any phone number field
is 602. If there is a modem installed on the machine, the default
area code used in this set up will be used in SalesLogix. The default
of 602 is hard-coded and can not be changed without having a modem
installed.
Number 7:
When using the Word
97 merge field dialog to create Word 97 templates, Word 97's Date/Time
field must be used. This differs from creating SalesLogix templates
since we provide a Date/Time field in this instance.
Number 8:
In Literature Fulfillment,
the Total Cost Column does not sort properly due to the currency
format.
Number 9:
In Literature Fulfillment,
the pick list for the Print Label field includes labels, envelopes,
and other reports (i.e. Contact Summary, Contact Detail, Contact
List). These other reports can be printed when no Literature Requests
are displayed or when processing Literature Requests.
To print reports
when no Lit Requests are displayed:
Select the report and
click the fulfill Button. When the Report Preview view displays,
click the print icon and then click next. The report and cover/list
will then print. The report contains the information for all applicable
record(s) from the database.
To print reports
when processing Lit Requests:
Select the Lit Request(s)
to be processed and select the report you would like to print. Click
the Fulfill button. When the Report Preview view displays, click
the print icon and then click exit. The report and cover /list will
then print. The report will only contain information applicable
to the records associated with the Lit Request(s) processed.
Number 10:
When a template has
Address Merge Fields that have been inserted from the Address tab,
the Select Address dialog box will appear and prompt you for an
answer. Therefore, when processing a Literature Request using such
a template the dialog box will appear for EACH request being fulfilled.
For example, if the Lit Request group being processed contains 10
contacts and the Handle Local option is selected, this Select Address
dialog box will appear 10 times. Therefore, SalesLogix would advise
that only templates containing Address Merge Fields inserted from
the Contact Tab be used in Literature Requests and Fulfillment.
This way, the Address Merge Fields dialog will not display.
Number 11:
A record is inserted
in the Notes/History Tab after a Literature Request has been processed.
This item contains a Regarding field that will display different
information depending on whether the Lit Request is handled locally
or not.
If the Lit Request
is handled locally:
The Regarding field
would begin with the word Fulfilled and then the description entered
in the Description Field of the original request. For example, if
the user making the request enters "Letter with Company Brochure"
in the Description Field, the Regarding field of the Notes/History
item will contain "Fulfilled: Letter with Company Brochure" after
the request has been fulfilled.
If the Lit Request
is handled by Literature Fulfillment (not locally):
The Regarding field
would begin with the way that the request was processed and then
the description entered in the Description Field of the original
request. For example, if the user making the request enters "Letter
with Company Brochure" in the Description Field, the Regarding field
of the Notes/History item will contain "Fulfilled: Letter with Company
Brochure" after the request has been fulfilled. There are 3 ways
that a request may be processed:
Fulfilled = The list
of Literature and Cover Letter selected where printed.
Completed = Nothing
was printed but the items were sent.
Rejected = The requested
items were not sent.
Using MS Fax with
SalesLogix
Important Things
to Remember
MS Fax being
a Microsoft product, requires Microsoft Exchange. The Windows 95
help files regarding MS Fax state that faxing uses MS Exchange.
Therefore, MS Fax can not be used with CC Mail or Lotus Notes or
POP3 Internet Mail even though SalesLogix supports these as methods
of sending e-mail. SalesLogix has no control over incompatibilities
between the fax and e-mail packages of other software vendors. More
information on the requirements of MS Fax can be found on Microsoft's
web site at http://www.Microsoft.com/KB/Articles/Q152/1/96.html
MS Exchange Client
and CC Mail Client use different versions of MAPI and therefore
can not co-exist on the same machine. It is possible to have the
MS Exchange Server (Version 4.5 or greater) and the CC Mail Server
located on the same machine. However, this does not apply to the
MS Exchange Client and the CC Mail Client.
Installing &
Configuring MS Fax for SalesLogix
The following components
must be installed on any machine that will be using Microsoft Fax
through SalesLogix:
• MS Exchange (preferably
Version 5.0)
• A Windows compatible
modem
• MS Fax
Installing MS Fax
Double click on Add/Remove
Programs in the Windows Control Panel. Then click the Windows Setup
Tab. Select the Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Fax options and
click Okay. Continue through the Install process and reboot the
machine when complete.
Note: If a modem is
not already present on the machine, the Modem Wizard will automatically
appear after rebooting.
Setting up MS Fax
Close MS Exchange
if it is already running and select Mail and Fax from the Windows
Control Panel.
Click the Services
Tab, select the Profile that you will use to send faxes and click
Add. The Add Service to Profile dialog will then open. Select Microsoft
Fax from this list, click Okay and then select Yes in the dialog
box that appears.
Click the User Tab
and type your name in the Full Name box. Also, type in your area
code and fax number in the Fax Number boxes.
Click the Modem Tab
and select the modem you wish to use to send faxes. Click Okay when
finished.
Sending Faxes with
SalesLogix
Configuring SalesLogix
for MS Fax
Open the SalesLogix
Client and select Options from the Tool menu. Once the dialog opens,
click the System Tab. In the Fax Section, select Microsoft Fax from
the drop-down list as your Fax Provider. In the Word Processing
section, select the Fax Template that will function as the default
when sending a fax. Note that faxing support is limited to the SalesLogix
Word Processor. Therefore, the list of templates that appears when
choosing a fax template will only contain SalesLogix templates even
if Word 97 or Word 95 is the chosen word processor for letters and
memos.
Sending a fax using
the SalesLogix Word Processor
Make sure that MS
Exchange is running and that you are logged in under the profile
that you set as the Fax Profile in the Control Panel. Then open
the SalesLogix Client and select Fax from the Write menu, or click
on the Write Fax icon on the Toolbar to begin the fax process. The
default fax template selected in the Tools Options dialog will merge
with the current contact's information to create the fax document.
Make any desired changes to the document. To send the fax, select
the Send Fax icon on the Toolbar or select Fax from the File menu.
Then the fax will be sent from MS Exchange depending on how and
when your MS Exchange Client (or Server) is configured to deliver
outgoing mail.
